Lately I’m loving these things…

Its no secret that I love the Satorialist. His life seems like a dream—traveling and photographing lovely people around the world. I seem to be more inspired by the menswear and the recent Satorialist lunch video had me squealing a bit. Lately the style profile of Sam Lambert and photos of Milan street style have been memorable.

Interior photography from the homes of Fay Andrada and Jessica Barensfield & Simon Howell. They both utilize similar pieces that our cottage has (probably all from Ikea ^_^) and small space design is always of particular interest to me. The white walls, artwork and plants combined with an industrial, re-purposed feel is what draws me in. I would like to post more interior photos of our space. Our cottage is my favorite place to be.

Emma Clover is quickly growing out of her clothes again and I have been thinking about getting some organic cotton pieces from the Dharma Trading Co. They are great for dyeing and maiki and I have repeatedly discussed creating our own images and patterns for Emma’s clothing. We do really enjoy dressing Emma in Kiwi Organic pants and Zutano shirts. I found their clothes second hand and like the good quality and comfortable fit. I would even buy them new I like them so much.

My favorite people.

winter cleaning

It seems as soon as Christmas was over I wanted to jump into cleaning and organizing projects. I took a bunch of small infant clothes (that Emma either never fit into to or only wore for a week at best) and other clothes to the thrift store yesterday. Today I cleaned the wood floors in the living room and we picked up some Flor carpet squares at CB2. They are such a good deal cheaper than any other rugs I have found and can be rearranged at any time. They look nice and cozy. Next I vacuumed the whole house and dusted our cube shelves. Part of the reason I suppose that I am on this cleaning kick is because I have family visiting in a couple days—seven ladies of all ages are coming up to meet Emma!

lately

July has always been my favorite month of the year. Probably because its my birthday month but also warm sun and fresh fruit! I am enjoying the few warm days that Berkeley has and savoring them. We hardly ever say, “Wow its so hot today.” I so wish that there was a beach closer to home so I could go flop down in the sand tomorrow (and I could get comfortable in this sand, since I am seven months pregnant) and bathe in the sunlight.

Loving lots and lots of fresh fruit! Mangos, apricots, pluots, plums, peaches, blueberries, cantaloupe and bananas mostly. Pesky plastic packaging keeps me from buying lots of strawberries and such. Love cherries too when I remember to bring a bag. maiki brings pyrex containers to the market to fill with blueberries. He is so smart.

Found cute red shoes that just scream summer. They may or may not be comfortable but affordable enough to take the risk.

Visiting friends in Santa Cruz next weekend. I love that place! No Boardwalk for me this time. I just want to eat a caramel apple from the pier and walk along listening to the sea lions with my love. Just walking along Pacific makes me happy.

Receiving packages almost daily to the cottage. Jason gave us a gift certificate to Amazon and the things that I picked out for baby came in three shipments. I also got a maternity/nursing/boppy like pillow, an Uppercase magazine (!), Sakura Bloom sling, and soon to be arriving, striped towels. Yay for fun mail!

less waste home

I know that we are on our way to making the cottage waste free but its a lot of work! Must celebrate the small achievements:

*Last weekend we visited the Pasta Shop and bought a pound of provolone sans the extra packaging. They wrapped it in paper for us because we didn’t bring a container but hey its not plastic.

*Planning on hitting up farmers markets but for the time being are enjoying the Monterey Market which offers the same perks of bulk produce with zero packaging.

*Have been filling containers since we’ve lived in Berkeley at the Berkeley Bowl and I rave about their big refill bottles of Giovanni shampoo & conditioner, Kiss My Face soap, and Dr. Bronner magic soap. It feels great to not go through all those plastic bottles.

*Buying more and more bulk foods now from all over Berkeley. Great for nuts, dried fruit, oatmeal, grains, pasta, cereal, teas, and chocolate. Next I want to try filling spice jars, sugar and flour as they run out.

I aim for my kitchen pantry to some day resemble this pantry from a Tasha Tudor illustration.
