It is December 1st and Emma has already eaten the first chocolate of her Advent calendar. We began taking out some our holiday decorations and are deciding when Hugo, our living tree, will come in for trimming. It is certainly cold and the rain has begun so a little holiday cheer is exactly what I need.

This Uniqlo and Marimekko collaboration. I love all of it but eyeing the simple top.
The near perfect London home of Mark Lewis on Remodelista.
The weather has dipped dramatically this week and I am embracing the cooler temps with coffee, fresh baked goods, hot tea, hot toddies and plenty of soup.
For our Thanksgiving meal with friends I am contributing roasted beets, rosemary olive bread and a bottle of red. Maybe also a dessert, because I cannot stop thinking about this chocolate chestnut cake.
Really enjoying every chapter of my new book “How to be a Good Creature: A Memoir in Thirteen Animals” written by Su Montgomery.
Most nights since the time change I have read aloud to Emma after dinner. We are currently making our way through the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Watching old favorite shows at night with maiki piled under blankets. I like Elementary and Sherlock best. Other favorites are Jeeves and Wooster, Travel Man and Red Dwarf.

It has been a delightful time in our lives.

We are watching the series “Jeeves and Wooster” and it is very entertaining. My first introduction to Hugh Laurie was in the film “Sense and Sensibility” and then hearing his voice as the animated Beatrix Potter character Johnny Town Mouse. Funny enough Jason’s favorite show was “House.” Clover and I first heard Stephen Fry as the narrator of “Pocoyo” and maiki and I watched him in “QI” and other documentary shows (maybe I also remembered seeing him in “V for Vendetta” as well but my memory is not great). When maiki found out that the pair were in a show together in the nineties he encouraged that we give it a go. I am so very pleased that we did and now we know that they made the sketch comedy show “A Bit of Fry and Laurie” (which is brilliant) and participated in the Footlights at Cambridge together with their friend Emma Thompson! I have enjoyed the rabbit hole and hope to watch “House” and listen to Fry narrate all of “Harry Potter” for me someday.
