things I own and use daily

This post by Leo Babauta is awesome. Things Every Man Should Own

I totally agree with Leo that people amass to many belongings. I often think about what I would take with me if I was going on a trip or moving abroad, like what essentials would I have with me. Here are some things daily that I use daily and like very much.

Other items like pictures, art and books are things that I save and cherish. I keep because I like to have them around. I enjoy making art (even more with Emma!) so we have a collection of paints, markers, pencils, crayons and paper. Having a child creates many more reasons to buy things. We have a tent, a train set, blocks, etc. for her to play with but we choose them with care. I like to acquire things with more intent these days and keep only what we use.

warm things

Our new place is sooo nice but a bit cold sometimes. We have a large glass slider in the living room and lately its been either cool with fresh air or cool with the doors closed. Ha, seriously though we have a heater and its electric as is everything else so that kinda sucks. We have been bundling up at night and wearing hats and scarves in the house. Except Emma who likes to strip down, but then she likes her accessories so she will have no shirt but wearing a wool hat for fashion. Kids are rarely cold since she are always moving. Adults get cold sitting still with their lappies and end up looking for cute warm things. Here is my short list:

This jacket which is so cute and inexpensive.

These Uggs look so lovely and luxurious.

Coyuchi wool blankets look nice.

Every sweater from J Crew mens please.

We of course drink lots of hot tea which is nice and warm and delicious. Trader Joe’s has a autumn herbal one that is great. We like loose peppermint or licorice and Good Earth herbal tea as well. I also just started drinking a decaf gen mai cha and its excellent.

moving update

We moved to Adams Point in Oakland. Its been so fun getting to know our new neighborhood. Lake Merritt is such a cool landmark and surrounded by neat attractions like a bird estuary, nature center, playgrounds, libraries, boating, lighted paths and Children’s Fairyland. We are near a Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s and Safeway. Also the farmers markets are wonderful. It will take us ages to visit all the restaurants, bars and cafes in the area. The first visit we ate at Arizendi and were so happy to know that we would be soon living nearby. Today Clovey and I bought a family year pass to Fairyland. We love it! We meet new families every time we go outside it seems and for that I am grateful.

Some of these pictures have already been posted but were added for context. The apartment is on the third floor and we spend our mornings sitting in the sun on our tree lined balcony. The living room is still pretty empty. The bedroom is carpeted and then covered in rugs, blankets and pillows since we ditched our bed frames and gave away our king size mattress. Clovey is about to outgrow her crib mattress so we will make a trip to Ikea soon for some mats to add to the comfort of our sleeping situation. The kitchen is so nice and large and we love the granite counter tops and open kitchen floor plan. Emma thinks the best part is the “ellalalator.”

things I like

This post is all the things that I like and are mostly things to wear. ^_^

Star dominoes from the Cosmic Collection at More & Co.

This herringbone clutch by Clare Vivier

Pajamas from Sleepy Jones. I like the liberty floral.

This backpack from edababe.

These slippers from BureBureSlippers.

This Odette necklace

And pretty much everything Truck sells. Clothing for me and Emma Clover. ^_^

Fine Little Day has the cutest children’s clothes now. Swooning for the sky dress and the gran sweatshirt for Emma since I cannot get them in my size.

Lastly, I love reading the Orangette blog of Molly Wizenberg. She is an amazing storyteller and makes things that sound delicious. This recipe for clafoutis must be made.
