bento boxed lunch

I found the coolest website about the art of building a better bento. It is very informative and full of great ideas despite being geared towards the younger school-age set. Here at Cloud Ninth we are always discussing how we should really be packing lunches to take with us to school, work, and other outings. It would save us money, cut down on packaging and keep ourselves full of energy on our long days away from home. This site was a reminder of these goals and gave us an excuse to purchase cute bento boxes from the Tokyo Fish Market Gift Shop. _ maiki and I picked out a simple styled boxes that have a velcro strap around them for extra security. They are super cute and mine had clovers on it which of course reminds me of Honey & Clover!!!

maiki and I went to the city and attended the CC birthday party where we hung out with Lawrence Lessig and Joi Ito. It was awesome. I donated some monies and received a cool Moleskine journal with CC and Mozilla imprinted on it. Also they gave me a Zagat restaurant guide for San Francisco. We took a lot of photographs with the new Lomo and cannot wait to get them developed. It was a fun party and Lawrence Lessig gave an awesome talk as usual. He shared info about a couple of new forms of CC licensing and updated the crowd on their new funding and worldwide support of CC. And they had awesome chocolate cake. Maybe the best I have ever eaten. I always meet new and interesting people at CC events and tonight talked to a cool guy about free culture site which I shall start reading up on after I get some sleep. maiki was so excited that he got to talk to so many accessible and friendly guys like Lawrence, Joi, and Jimmy Wales. He was geeking out. I was just glad to be there. Now I am going to upload my digital photos from the event and listen to the new DJ Spooky CD’s they were giving out at the party. Whee!

holiday shopping commenced

Now that I am coming to the end of my classes I have had some time to think about my holiday shopping. I bought a few things in L.A. during the day after Thanksgiving shopping trip with my sisters but still have more presents to buy before the end of next week. Yesterday I went out and found a few things for my dad and brother but also purchased a present for me and maiki. I got a LC-A+ Lomo camera! It was something that we have wanted for a long time and thought it would be cool to have it for all the parties and upcoming road trip. We opened it up and immediately started taking pictures last night. It was dark but we didn’t care. Cannot wait to see it any of them turned out. We actually have a lot of film and I’m sure that we will go through it fast. I think that brings our camera total now to five. hehe, the more the merrier! *_*

Lunch dates

I have gone a couple of super fun lunch dates this past week. The first was with Jon in San Francisco where we had lunch in a cool German pub that reminded me so much of my dad it was weird. They were even playing Bing Crosby tunes and showing the horse races for Hollywood Park. It was a trip! Next he showed me the houseboat that he is staying at. It was so awesome but as much as I adore the idea of living on a boat in the SF Bay, I was not used the constant rocking. He said that he acclimated pretty quickly but after five minutes I had to move back to solid ground. I took a bunch of photos of the Bay Bridge and then headed off to school.

Saturday I took the train to San Jose to meet Adrienne and Katherine. We worked together at a preschool several years ago and have stayed in touch by getting for together for coffee dates and hanging out. This time we had to do a bit of traveling to meet up. Luckily we found a great place downtown that we could sit and talk at without feeling bad for camping out. I of course always love to take public transportation and for me that was half the fun. I took the Amtrak, CalTrain, and Bart to travel back and forth.

Once home from my trip reality set in. OMG I have a lot of homework to do before Mondays classes. I have not slept well in a week. My emotional levels are haywire due to visiting with with my family, the stress of lots of homework and of course no sleep. Luckily I made it through with a little help from my friends and Calmes Forte.

Today I decided to treat myself to some adventuring and a pedicure. I walked with maiki up to the UC campus and then I went on my way towards Telegraph. I found a bakery that makes organic, home made vegan doughnuts. I tried one and it was just okay. I found a really nice nail salon on Telegraph that gives student discounts and got a pedicure. I think that the last time I did that for myself was two years ago. It was fun to sit in the massaging chair and just relax. Now I am going to make some pumpkin soup and then work on more homework.
