dispenser toy is the greatest ever

kiko-gatcha-gatcha-vending-machine

I have come across this toy gumball-like dispenser many times and every time I see I want to buy it instantly. It is kinda expensive for a toy so I do not but I want it just as much every time! I love it and I am pretty sure that Emma would freak out if she saw it. Of course she freaks with glee over most things. The colorful wooden balls and stars look sturdy but are probably small. Maybe a good gift when she is three. The dispenser is made by Japanese designer kiko + Gatcha Gatcha and can be bought here and here. And kukkia shop for kiko+ products (in Japanese).

park with papa while I sit on the sidelines

Emma Clover loves when maiki is with her at the park. He brings a totally different kind of fun energy than mama. I am always grateful for all of maiki’s help but especially since I have been laid out since Friday afternoon with the dreadful back problems. One day after my 37th b-day and here I am complaining about back pain like I am 97. But I guess this has been the case since I was a server in my early 20s. Feeling completely capable and then bam—out on the floor for a few days at best.

Last year when maiki was in the last weeks leading up to launching a large site for his publisher client my back went out. Now with less than a week before launch of another big site for them, here I am again in the same situation. This time around I am considering that maybe its more than a coincidence. Maybe it is stress. A direct result of trying to do it all without bothering him. I already have a hard time asking for help as it is but then my back problems flare up and I wish I was less stubborn. Also my child is so big now and I find myself pushing her plus groceries in a rickety stroller up a huge hill to get home. I suppose that strength training and yoga at home should be higher on my list of priorities. That gym membership also sounds like a good investment now. Ah well, for now I am going to go lay on my heating pad and hope Emma is forgiving of her mama that has a low constitution. ^_^

petting zoo

The Lakeview library hosted a petting zoo yesterday afternoon so we walked down the hill for a visit. Emma was way into it and after five or so minutes had to be taken out so the little furry creatures would continue to live, safely away from her clutches. And yes the libraries are the place to be in the summer. I heard one librarian say that pretty much their whole budget is spent on these summer activities!

Emma loved all of the animals but was excited about funny aspects like the ducks drinking water. She ran up to them and excitedly called “puddle ducks!” This kid loves Beatrix Potter. ^_^

Temescal adventure

Yesterday was a busy one for us. We woke up and jumped on a bus to go and see and puppet show. It was showing at the Temescal library as part of the Oakland summer reading program. It was a riff off the Three Little Pigs and we loved it! Temescal children’s library is the most fun to visit because they have the amount of toys and manipulatives that a pre-school would offer. Clover likes the kitchen toys best and pretended to be a little mama.

For lunch we had a taco with rice and beans at Cholita Linda. Delicious food at a cute patio table covered with oilcloth. We visited some of our old favorites on Temescal and some new ones. I love Book/Shop but going in their with Emma makes for a brief visit. We found a secret garden and a apothecary shop as well in the Alley. Lastly we went to the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse and bought more blocks. We gave them a good bath when we got home. ^_^
