The perfect autumn afternoon for us. Not too cold and includes cupcakes, tea and a trip to the playground.

It is the time of year that the Oakland Municipal Band plays in the park. The band stand is in a nice spot in Lakeside park between Children’s Fairyland and the Gardens. Today we set up our picnic near the band and stayed long after they were through. It was a lovely afternoon listening to music and Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast, enjoying our cantaloupe and avocado, sweets and tea, and resting in the grass on a warm sunny afternoon.
magnolia mondays 01
January in Oakland means magnolia season so I have decided to photograph them with my good camera this year. This first tree is a small one near the Gardens of Lake Merritt (which could be also be considered Lakeside park) near the lawn bowling area. It is also the one that I will always remember a little two-year-old Emma saying “look mama, magnolahs!”
