When is babby formed? my version

A few days ago maiki wrote a post about how we have made a decision to have children called When is babby formed? I thought that I would add to that by writing a bit about it myself. ^_^

I should start by saying that I have been an Early Childhood Educator full time for ten years now (minus the time that I attended the Academy of Art). I have always enjoyed being around children and they give me a unique and fresh perspective on life. This career choice has also allowed me to be with so many children that I never felt the need to start a family of my own. I have always loved sleeping in on the weekends and having my own free time.

It wasn’t until I turned 31 that I thought, wow I really feel that maternal urge now. All of a sudden it hit me. I talked about it with my partner and he giggled a bit. I was in school at the time and those were the One More Robot days where we lived with lots of people so we decided to wait.

Now it feels right. We are in a comfortable home and are working out all of our fears and anxieties regarding raising a child. We talk a lot and feel fortunate to have made such a conscious decision. We have a lot of collected experience in child rearing and feel excited to share love with a new little person.

I have really been thinking a lot about how my body will be housing the creation a new life. It has always been my opinion that folks were way to blase about the fact that brains and lungs, etc. grow inside a woman’s stomach. It is a miracle of course but still freaks me out. I was actually really sick for most of September with a protozoa in my stomach and have talked to my doctor extensively on what I can do to prepare myself for a pregnancy since then. I have been good about taking prenatal vitamins for a while and am a vegetarian with food allergies so I think about the nutritional value of everything that I eat. My doctor says that I am in good shape and of the perfect age so here it goes. A new adventure begins…

saturday in the city

Yesterday was a wonderful day spent in the city with maiki! We went to see the Maira Kalman exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum and it was wonderful. I bought three books in the gift shop: Fireboat, What Pete Ate and the Principles of Uncertainty. I had been anxious to visit the museum for some time and was happy to have finally made it there after a few failed attempts. We also checked out the work of the scribe of the “As It Is Written: Project 304,805,” in which a young woman is writing out the sacred Torah scroll at the museum. There are 304, 805 letters to meticulously write—its pretty amazing!

For lunch we went to the Samovar Tea lounge in Yerba Buena Gardens, a favorite place of ours. I tried new things and they were both delicious: vegan thai iced tea and the rice jook with tofu. We decided to walk around the city a bit, which means we will inevitably end up in Japantown. We went to New People and I bought a perfect little pearl ring that I had been eying made by mei-5. Its gorgeous!

blueberry cinnamon oatmeal multigrain pancakes!

I have been in a pancake mood lately and making pancakes at home is both fun and satisfying. I have this big bag of Arrowhead Mills multigrain pancake and waffle mix that I have been using for what seems like forever. It was really a good purchase. The cool thing is that all you need is water and a bit of oil but you can add soymilk, fruit, spices to it and it makes even more glorious. Lately I have even been adding oatmeal to the dry mix and it is so delicious. The “pancakes” I made today were more like little oatcakes because I added a lot of oats—and soymilk, blueberries and lots of cinnamon. Healthy and always delicious with a bit of agave syrup. ^_^

Loving Stephanie Levy’s collage art! Here is Coffee and Pancakes. Lots more in her etsy store.

Happy cloud

After a week without Cloud (my 20in iMac), yesterday we were reunited and my worries dispelled. I got my computer back, with a new 1 terabyte hard drive and all of my files recovered. I am so relieved! I also had a bit more ram put in so its like new. ^_^

Today maiki imported all of my old Vox posts over to this domain. Vox is closing its doors so to speak and no longer hosting my old Random Butter blog. Now you can read old, poorly written blog posts from 2006. I am glad to have them but embarrassed to discover a lack of capitalization in the beginning. I used to post a lot more often due to prompts by Vox with “questions of the day,” etc. It was good for me at the time and I am glad to share them here.

Now having a cup of tea and relaxing, relatively worry free since my files are restored and backed up to my removable hard drive. Time to get to work on some print work for cog motive!
