We took the ferry to San Francisco and walked over to Fort Mason for the Renegade Holiday Market last weekend. Emma Clover got a fancy wooden camera from Twig Creative and when I borrowed it to sport as a fun neck wear received loads of compliments. We took great pretend (and some real) pictures of the sunset, posed for the Magnolia photo booth and ended the afternoon walking over an enormous hill to Japantown. ^_^

saturday adventure
Today we went to the MOCHA (Museum of Children’s Arts) space AND rode the ferry! Fun times. ^_^
Emma made a book at the open art class. We filled it with many blank pages so that she could continue to draw in it in the future. I was very excited that we could made relief prints for the cover. I loved the printmaking class that I took and always want to practice it more.
We received passes for the ferry from the summer reading program. Emma held on to my ticket for me the whole time. And how cute is this vintage dress that I ordered from Etsy?! I love it so much on her!
We pointed out all the passing boats and went under the bridge. On the bus ride home (which goes directly to where we live) we drove over the new Bay bridge and could see the old one off to the side.
While in S.F. we ate lunch on a bench and people watched, bought blankets at Target (really ready for cold weather now!) and checked out public art in Soma.
This piece is entitled “Human Structures” by Jonathan Borofsky.
I remember walking down this street a lot as an art student and being so happy when I saw this sculpture between the tall buildings. I knew Clover would appreciate it since its colorful and so large in scale.
These three fellows are also nearby. They were made by Ugo Rondinonemy and are my favorite. Emma said they were monsters. ^_^
(This last picture was taken several years ago, which is why the landscaping is sparse ^_^).
new haircut and a trip to Japantown
Emma got a haircut today. Both of us ended up crying after her bath where I washed her hair. I told maiki exasperatedly that I wanted to cut it off so he got the scissors and we started cutting. It was in a bun, all wet and tangled and maiki cut it right off. I styled it a bit and kept it a little longer in the front. It is actually really easy to cut her hair because its both thin and full of body and curls. We are all happy now with it and hopefully bath times will be smoother.
Emma tried to use her chopsticks today! We had udon noodles which are not easy to wrangle so she mostly used her spoon and slurped them down before they slipped out. ^_^
A new parasol for our walks. Emma notices many people using them to block the sun so and she is very much on board with the idea.
We looked around at Kinokuniya and brought home Hi, Koo! A Year of Seasons, a new book by Jon J. Muth. We have his collection at home. They are so special.
I loved the design of these two books. I want to bring home all the books in their store every time I visit. It is a good practice in restraint. Planning to go to the library to check out the new Murakami book but I know I will have to wait a bit.
monday adventure around San Francisco
The plan was to try on Warby Parker sunnies at the Perish Trust so we trekked over to Divisidero in San Francisco for a day trip. We took BART to Civic Center and walked up Hayes, shopped at Rare Device and ate delicious toast at the Mill before realizing that the Perish Trust no longer hosts Warby Parker eye wear. They do however have a pop-up Umami Mart which is super cool. It was such an amazing day over all and we had a great time walking all over the city and visiting Alamo Square park. Great views, gorgeous tall trees and a fun playground for Emma. Win Win. ^_^
