I finally finished the book by Elizabeth Gilbert. It was beautiful and I did not ever want it to end because it was providing me with great therapy. I highly recommend it to anyone but if you are recently divorced and thirty it will affect you more than you know. I am going to lend it to my Mom but then I am taking it back so I can read it again. I love to read my favorite books over and over again. Some of my other favorites are:
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
My Antonia By Willa Cather
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

Saturday post
This morning Tim and I went for a walk and got coffee and bagels. Later (w/ maiki) we played quick game of Quiddler and I won again. I have just been getting really lucky and have been able to utilize all the high scoring letters I’ve been dealt. I have to admit that since I have discovered this game I have no desire to play Scrabble. Quiddler just goes so much faster and I like not having worry about how the word that I made is going to fit with everyone else’s.
Afterwards we (w/ Jason as well) all walked over to the Pacific East Mall. We went into all of the little shops and I ended up buying a Bleach tee, a cute planner and some stickers. I also had my eyes on the flower barettes that Orihime wears (in Bleach) but did not get them. Maybe next time! We picked up some groceries from 99 Ranch Market and came back to the house and made ramen. Tim and maiki are busy writing for NaNoWriMo and I am going to begin working on my next logo design.
Kimi and Justin have been out today, but I’m sure that when they return they will be down to play another big multi-player game of Magic. I love the fact that on a Saturday night my friends and I explore our creative sides and play games rather than drink lots of alcohol and act like fools—and if we do have a drink it’s not the focus. I really appreciate how much this part of my life has changed.
Tim is here!
Tim took the train and got here this afternoon. We played a quick game of Quiddler and I totally won. Yahoo. _
When Kimi, Justin and Jason returned from their outings it brought our Cloud Ninth numbers to six people—which is awesome. I love when so many friends have the opportunity to come together. We ate some croquets and then trooped over to the re-opening party for our neighborhood library. We were really hoping for cupcakes, but they did not deliver. I will have to make some this weekend. We have loose plans for the days ahead and have talked about going to Japantown again, but whatever we do I am sure that it will be fun.

The beginning of NaNoWriMo!
I cannot believe how fast the days go by. It is already November 1st and yesterday I purchased plane tickets to go to L.A. for Thanksgiving. (I should probably start planning my trip for Christmas as well…) Anyways, so it is also the start of NaNoWriMo and I have decided to do my part by writing a blog post every day for the month of November. I think that this is much easier of a task than my writer friends are undertaking which is to write 50,000 words a piece by November 30th. That is too much for me, but this I can handle.
My Halloween day ended up being so much fun. I received Quiddler in the mail from my friend Tim! It is a favorite game of mine and also of my Cloud Ninth housemates, and our previous copy was lost in the move. I was so excited so have it again and made everyone play it that night. It was awesome. Jason brought out his lappy, played music and kept score on a spreadsheet just like old times. Tim will be here tomorrow and much more Quiddler shall be played in celebration. *_*
Also that night, maiki and I went exploring and discovered the Pacific East Mall in Richmond. A classmate of mine told me about it and we were intrigued by the prospect of an Asian marketplace that was closer than San Francisco. We walked lots, but were pleasantly surprised to find how close to home it really was. We warmed up with hot tea and hot & sour soup and got some cream pan from the bakery. Maybe we can convince everyone to take a Cloud Ninth field trip to go sing Karaoke one night. That would be fun (hilarious!).
Today I worked on a logo for a bakery/cafe for my homework. I also have three more to create for my other class as well. I am not sure how I feel about logo and branding design work. It seems to be simple but it is really quite tedious. Thankfully I have another week before the other logos are due so I can focus on one idea at a time and really explore all the possibilities. It is fun for me, but I wonder how I will feel when I am working for a real client with real deadlines. Right now all of my assignments are enjoyable because I don’t have to stress too much. I figure this is just practice and portfolio building and right now that is fine with me.
The pear
Tonight I baked a pear in the oven and it was so delicious. The pear had not ripened in over a week of sitting on the counter so my solution to make it edible was to bake it. It was a magical transformation. I think that I will only eat pears this way now. It was just too good.
