today i went to a worm workshop to learn more about vermicomposting. it was really interesting and i came home with some red wigglers to start my own bin. it's pretty simple really – you throw your fruit and vegetable peelings into the bin and the worms turn your leftovers into vermicompost. i am using a simple rubbermaid tub with a few holes drilled into in for ventilation. the worms live in a newspaper bedding and i also have a coconut pith fiber mixed in to start it off. the finished product is a high quality fertilizer that you can use to enrich your soil. i am really excited about it and plan to have enough worms to start another worm bin for my two-year-old class by springtime. let me know if you are interested…i can provide lots of information about it!
Everytime I see or hear about worms, I think of Dumb and Dumber – Harry and Loyd's worm farm, lol
